15 Things You Didn’t Know about JK Rowling

Cue the Hogwarts music, please! We are going to talk about the mind behind our wizardly world: JK Rowling.

Singers use their voice to touch people’s hearts. Writers do that through words they put together into series of events called a story. The story could be so amazing that it would take you away to the fantasy world through the power of your imagination. And what a world JK Rowling has created for all of us.

Born on July 31st, 1965, Rowling has become a world-renowned novelist. That is all because of the Harry Potter series. She has written other stuff outside the Harry Potter world, but none of them can match the success of Hogwarts magic.

As she was put under the spotlight worldwide, it was only a matter of time until controversies start hitting her. So, we picked some of the juiciest and most recent stories from Rowling’s life.

But before we get to that, we’ll discuss about her career as a novelist and her success especially in terms of wealth. Don’t you wanna know how much money you can get from typing words out of your head? Let’s get to it!

15. How did she start it all?

There is no such thing as long-lasting success without struggles. Everyone gets through the ups and downs before finally hit the breakthrough. And JK Rowling is no exception to that.

When she was a kid, she used to write short stories which she would read to her sister. Growing up, Rowling was inspired by Jessica Mitford. And she has read all of her books. She even named one of her kids after her.

The Harry Potter idea came to her in 1990. But it took a long time for her to get on writing. Even a couple years since she started, she only had three chapters of the whole story. And she wrote the first book from one café to another, sometimes while taking care of her baby.

Her struggles didn’t stop there. Finishing a book doesn’t mean a writer’s job is done. The process of finding a publisher can be agonizing. Rowling went to a dozen of publishers and they all said no. Thankfully she found Barry Cunningham, Bloomsbury editor, who was interested and gave her £1,500 down payment. Then the rest is history.
