14. Surfing coasts in Uluwatu
Bali is paradise for surfers. Not a few people left their lives to stay in Bali to have this beautiful open water for them to surf on. And one of the most popular spots is the coasts of Uluwatu.
This southern part of Bali used to be inaccessible because of its natural terrain. Its beautiful beaches were hidden behind tall, steep cliffs. Only until recent years, the government finally developed this area, hence today’s better access.
Even though some steep parts of Uluwatu have been transformed into flatland, you’re still able to enjoy its beautiful cliffs. So, even if you’re not into surfing, you can come here, sit by the cliff, and enjoy the view of surfers tackling the ocean waves.
There are plenty of beaches to choose from in this area. Two of the most popular are Pandawa beach, for its unique history, and Padang-Padang beach, for its rocky beauty. If you’re not staying around Uluwatu area and it’s your first visit, I suggest you to leave before dark to avoid getting lost.
