14. Suckling Pig in Every Corner of the Street
Pork is a popular meat among Balinese. Thus, it should come as no surprise that suckling pig or Be Guling is the most popular dish in town. It is not just because they love pork, but also because of its tradition.
Balinese people believe that pig represents laziness. Thus, during some cultural celebrations, they feast on pig as a symbol of getting rid of the bad trait off themselves. In some others, pigs are used in sacrificial rituals.
In one portion of Be Guling, there are many kinds of pork meat. They are fried pork, coconut-milk-poached pork, sweet pork, and of course the hero of the dish: suckling pig. All of them are served with rice, sautéed vegetables, and pork chips.
As popular as it is, you can find this dish in almost every corner of the street. In fact, it is also available on local restaurants’ menu.
