Larry Ellison Net Worth: How rich is Larry Ellison? & How much money is Larry Ellison worth? Time to find out!

Larry Ellison is an American businessman and his current net worth is $61.4 billion.

Born in New York City, to an unwed Jewish mother, and an Italian-American pilot, his mother gave him to her aunt and uncle for adoption after he contracted pneumonia, at nine months.

He did not meet his mother again until he turned 48 years old. Raised in a Reform Jewish home by his adoptive parents he remained a religious skeptic. In fact, at 13 years old he refused to have a bar mitzvah.

Ellison attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign but dropped out after his second year. He didn’t take his final exams because his adoptive mother had just died.

Upon spending that summer in Northern California, he went to the University of Chicago for one year, where he first encountered computer design.

At 22 years old, he moved to the Northern California for good. During the following years, he started working for Ampex Corporation.

Among his projects for the company, there is one, a database for the CIA named Oracle.

He created Oracle inspired by Edgar F. Codd’s paper on relational database systems called “A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks”.

A while after he founded Software Development Laboratories along with two friends and an investment of $2,000, of which $1,200 came from  him.

In 1979 the company became Relational Software Inc., and three years later it became Oracle Systems Corporation after its star product, Oracle Database.

His wanted to create a system compatible with IBM System R database, but IBM made this impossible by refusing to share System R’s code.

After a few bumps, and although IBM dominated the mainframe relational database market, Oracle came through.

Because IBM dominated the bigger market, the mid-range systems and microcomputers left for the little guys like Sybase, Oracle, Informix, and eventually Microsoft.

After a few bumps, and although IBM dominated the mainframe relational database market, Oracle came through.

Because IBM dominated the bigger market, the mid-range systems and microcomputers left for the little guys like Sybase, Oracle, Informix, and eventually Microsoft.

Around this time, Oracle fell behind Sybase, the fastest-growing database company and the database industry’s darling vendor.

In the beginning of Oracle, Larry Ellison received an award in the High Technology Category for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Program.

A while after, Informix overtook Sybase, becoming Oracle’s most important rival, announcing a major revenue shortfall.

The same year Ellison became a director of Apple Computer after Steve Jobs returned to the company. He resigned in 2002 and with the defeat of Informix and of Sybase, Oracle had several years of industry dominance.

From Oracle, Ellison earned a $975,000 salary and a $6.5 million bonus. As the company grew, Ellison earnings grew as well.

And in 2006 Forbes ranked him the richest Californian, and today is one of the richest people in the world.
