Born in Omaha, Nebraska as the second of three children on Leila and Congressman Howard Buffett, he is currently the second richest man in the world.
He went to Rose Hill Elementary School and in 1942 after his father got elected to the first of four terms, the family moved to Washington, D.C.
Then he finished elementary school and went to Alice Deal Junior High School. A while after he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.
True fact: his senior yearbook picture reads: “likes math; a future stockbroker.”
After high school ended, he started showing an interest in business and investing.
Inspired by the book he borrowed from the Omaha public library at the age of seven, One Thousand Ways to Make $1,000, he found success with his side entrepreneurial and investment businesses.
Right around that time, he wanted to skip college to go directly into business but his father opposed.
One of his first business ventures required him, going door to door to sell chewing gum, Coca-Cola bottles and weekly magazines.
Growing up, he also used to work in his grandfather’s grocery store. And while still a pupil, he used to make money delivering newspapers, selling golf balls and stamps, among other things.
In 1944 he took his first income tax return when he took a $35 deduction for the use of his bike and watch on his paper route.
At 11 years old, he purchased three shares of Cities Service Preferred for himself, and three for his sister Doris Buffett.
At 14 he purchased a farm land with his $1,200 of his savings.
By the time he finished college, he had accumulated $9,800 in savings, which is around $99,000 today.
He applied to Harvard Business School, but they rejected him. After which he applied at Columbia Business School of Columbia University where he earned a Master of Science in Economics.
After graduating, Buffett attended the New York Institute of Finance.
Today he is one of the richest men in the world, as well as a business magnate, investor and philanthropist.
Considered by many as one of the most successful investors in the world, as well as been the chairman and largest shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway.
Apart from being the chairman of his company, he is also a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent of his wealth to charity, via Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
In 2009, with Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, Warren founded The Giving Pledge, whereby billionaires pledge to give away at least half of their fortunes.
