Francoise Nielly is the famous French knife-painter best known for her closeup portraits which are full of refreshing, amazing colors that can light up any dark room.
Born in Marseille and currently living in Paris, she finds inspiration in urban life. Her father had a great influence on her work, as there it can’t be ‘no room for mistakes’.
Francoise Nielly’s masterpieces are very detailed. In order to create such awesome paintings, the artist uses knives.
The knives create thick brushstrokes, which united, they ended up giving contrasting, fluorescent, colors, filled with energy.
On an interview, Francoise Nielly was asked what does painting means for her. The answer pleased us very much.
For Francoise, painting represents ‘an intense experience, desirable and formidable.‘
She declared : ‘It’s a combination of conflicting and complementary internal movements; excitement, anxiety, pleasure, vertigo, attraction, doubt and acceleration. It’s always breathtaking.
I work with intuition, without a net. I throw myself within the white of the canvas and it’s an intense experience, desirable and formidable.’
Her artwork became known worldwide, and some of them were exhibited in New York, Monaco, Singapore, Barcelona and Montreal.

Francoise’s skills were used in other fields too. In 2010, at the Geneva Motor Show, the main attraction was a painted Citroen Survolt Concept Car, also known as Francoise’s Art Car.
Together with Givenchy’s Artist Director of Make-up, Nicolas Degennes, Francoise participated at launching the Artycolor Collection.
Also, she designed a collection just for women named ‘Lipstick’, for Burton Snowboards.
