A young lady with a ‘visor’ like helmet on her face, riding on the sleek futuristic BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100. Could this really be a future scenario for biking experience in the next 100 years?
I couldn’t believe what I just had seen, when the eye-popping images of BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 popped up on my screen. To tell you the truth, this BMW motorcycle is one of my own favorites!
Apparently BMW has been full of surprises for its 100th anniversary, hosting events in different cities, and premiering forward looking vehicle concepts.
Aside from this charming cutting-edge motorcycle, BMW has also unveiled a BMW sports car, an autonomous Rolls-Royce, and an electric Mini.
An epitome of future family of motorcycles, BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 has certainly some distinctive features.
There’s No Need for a Stand
Firstly, BMW Group claims this unique motorcycle helps protect the rider because of its self-balancing wheels. In other words, the motorcycle can keep standing upright either at a complete stop or in motion.
As a result BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 relieves its rider from wearing a helmet or body protection.
‘Digital Companion’ Ensures a Safe Ride
Second notable feature is a “Digital Companion”. It provides a high degree of safety by intervening in the driving route of the rider. This function works either if the rider desires or when required. Its function is to constantly adjust the ride of the bike according to the rider’s driving style.
Digital Visor Instead of Helmet
Third is ‘The Visor’ helmet which is seemingly a gadget as well, by which the rider and motorcycle can easily communicate. The Visor is a pair of data glasses which spans the whole rider’s field of view and is sensitive to eye movements.
Only when taking action is needed such as danger or upon the rider’s request does the Visor work. Once activated, it learns the route of the motorbike, and shows relevant maps and data to the rider.
A strange triangle-shaped black frame makes up most of the functional sculpture of the motorbike. It connects the rear wheels to the front ones with a dynamic curve.
Interestingly, this black frame next to white trim lines, is actually designed to evoke the 1923 R32, the first BMW motorcycle.
BMW hasn’t published so much detail about what will go into the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100’s final production.
The world’s top maker of luxury vehicles claims to be doing this intentionally, probably in order to avoid tipping off competitors.
