This hardcore AMG GT Roadster is the Mercedes’ Plan for the Paris Motor Show Later this Month
Mercedes’ men in the laboratory have been tweaking the DNA of GT Roadster in order to create an insane creature. As a result, an evil creature has come out which is apparently one of the most bad ass versions of sports convertibles.
With an ability to reach top speeds of 300 km/h, GT Roadster boasts more power than its predecessors. Needless to say that it’s more expensive.
There will be two versions of GT Roadster available on the market when sales start later this year: the 350kW GT Roadster and the more thoroughly equipped 410kW GT C Roadster.
The former reaches 100 km/h from standstill in 4.0 seconds and hits a top speed of 302km/h. While the C version, takes 3.7 seconds to reach 100 km/h.
Additionally, AMG points out that the weight difference of 65kg between the twins, stems from the fact that the ‘C’ version boasts a higher level of standard.
Lightweight, Big Engine, and a whole lot of Glamour
The company has made best efforts to lower the weight of the car as much as possible. For instance, the wishbone and the steering knuckle are made of aluminum.
Moreover, the frame which supports the three layers of the automatic fabric roof, is made from aluminum, steel and magnesium.
However, creating additional stability in the dash and the seats has caused GT Roadster to be 55kg heavier than the latest AMG GT Coupe.
Similar to most modern convertibles, the roof retracts in just 11 seconds. This actually happens at speeds up to 50 km/h.
In addition to the amazing power, AMG GT Roadster also features a standard rear-wheel steering system. It steers the back wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels at high speeds. As a result of that, the ride’s handling and agility has greatly improved.
Mercedes-AMG officials haven’t specified the exact price yet. Even though they have suggested the price to be $13,000 above respective GT Coupe models. Therefor, a price of $140,000 for the standard GT Roadster, and $156,000 for the more powerful ‘C’ version, would be a good estimation. AMG doesn’t expect the delivery to start before April 2017.
