But do you have a fortune in your home? She reveals her top tips for making money online. According to her, most people have at least $3,000 worth of items ‘just lying around’.
The mother of two who lives in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania began all this 15 years ago when she wanted to sell her son’s video games on the site.
The 53-year-old woman turned her luxury consignment store, Linda’s Stuff, into a multi-million dollar business.
She earns $25 million a year by selling clothes on eBay. And for everyone who wants to become like her, she has gladly shared some of her tips on becoming a top seller.
Giving away tips was her way to celebrate the e-commerce website’s 20th anniversary.
She has told the Daily Mail Online:
‘Most people don’t know that the average household has over 52 items worth over $3,000 just lying around their house ready to sell.
‘But you don’t have to be limited by what is in your home. Branch out. You can make money selling other items on eBay,’ she added.
The former labor and employment attorney in New York also says:
‘I was always so passionate about fashion and for me it was a no brainer,’ she explained.
‘Within weeks, my friends asked me to sell their clothes and so on. Word of mouth is a very powerful marketing tool and it spread quickly. I instantly knew I was on to something.’
All grew very quick and by 2006 she had 20 employees and moved Linda’s Stuff into a 5,000-square foot office space.
And today the company is still at its best, and the business model, says that aspiring eBay sellers should do their research and understand the marketplace for the items they want to sell.
‘We list approximately 5,000 items a day with approximately 140,000 unique items listed on a site,’ the Brooklyn Law School alumna said.
‘Linda’s Stuff has truly become a cult of sorts for some people who visit our site and check out the new things we are listing and selling daily.’
According to her, here is what should you be doing if you want be clean up on eBay.
Do some research: ‘Learn how to price by researching what similar items are selling for’.
Pick a good user ID: ‘Clearly, I wish I had taken this advice,’ Linda admits.
Use good quality images and detailed descriptions: ‘Take lots of pictures’, you want ‘crisp, sharp’ images. And ‘describe, describe. Is the item new or pre-loved? Does it have tags? What is the fabric content? What are the measurements? The more you include, the better.’
Write a great title so your item stands out: ‘Make sure to include the designer name, size, color, style and other identifiers that buyers would search for.’
Provide excellent customer service: It’s important to be very clear about terms for payment, shipping and returns. And be prepared to provide more detailed if asked.
Be reliable and prompt: ‘Be prepared to pack and ship it quickly and in the manner agreed upon in your listing,’ she says, and pack nicely.
Enjoy it: ‘People say if you do what you love and love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life – I never believed it until I started Linda’s Stuff.’
