Where they make the wine?
The wine-making process doesn’t take place entirely below the sea. No. They take the wine, aged above ground, for three months, and then they store it in amphorae, below the water. All for one to two years.
What is an amphora?
Well, it’s a clay jug with two handles and a narrow neck.
This unique storage method makes the wine taste different, rather of a distinct pinewood aroma.
How they prevent leaks?
The water increases the odds of leakages, but the owners have already taken multiple precautions to avoid that.
Apart from a cork, all the bottles have two layers of rubber to prevent saltwater from seeping in, or the wine out.
Packaged in cages and locked, the bottles stored this way to prevent unauthorized divers to steal the bottles.
The owners decided to age their wine underwater because “the sea provides natural cooling in ideal conditions and the perfect silence underwater improves the quality.”
And once you’ve drunk the contents, you’ve got a beautiful bottle that you can display, give away or reuse.
