This $150m Damen SeaXplorer Mega Expedition Yacht Can Break the Ice
Damen SeaXplorer Mega Expedition Yacht is the world’s first private expedition yacht built to the Polar Class specification.
Unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show, this yacht aims to take its owners to the coldest and most remote parts of the world without a problem.
Built and designed by Dutch shipbuilding company Damen Group, this luxury expedition yacht can literally break through ice in the Arctic and Antarctic.
The super boat boasts outdoor heated decks, icebreakers, and a 40-day run time before needing to return to port.
As you can see, the SeaXplorer is one tough ship. What you couldn’t see is that this yacht was built as an expedition yacht capable of breaking through ice in order to explore the furthest corners of the world.
With the help of its reinforced, Polar Class hull and an ice-breaking stern, this boat can easily cross the Arctic without a problem.
As the first private expedition yacht built to the Polar Class specification, this one with be required to visit Polar Regions by 2017.
Until then, the only use of this boat remains exploring the remote tropical islands. Because it can travel for 40 days without a port call and because this ship has plenty of space to store a personal submarine and diving equipment, it lets you explore the surroundings even better.
The ship’s interior is sleek and modern, with clean lines and large windows, while the top deck Sky Lounge has multiple fire pits to keep guests warm.
Its observation lough offers incredible views of the surrounding nature.
The SeaXplorer is available in three sizes, the largest of which measures 380 feet long and can fit 30 guests and 50 members of the crew.
There’s also space for a helicopter pad on the back, as well as a fully equipped helicopter hanger with a lift system.
Bottom line, the yacht was built for extreme conditions but still managed to keep its soft, luxury side, every yacht has.
Nonetheless, for the more adventurous and affluent lot, yacht builders extraordinaire, the Damen group, have announced their first series of seagoing vessels that have been specifically designed for ‘expeditions’; so enter the SeaXplorer range that could traverse the Arctic as easy as it would the Bahamas.
With all the trimmings of a luxury craft, the SeaXplorer, expedition ready, mega yacht will set adventurers back at least $150 million (£100million).
