19. Democratic Republic of The Congo
Democratic Republic of The Congo was previously known as Zaire until 1997. The former ruler of Zaire, Mobutu Sese Seko, was well-known for his legendary corruption.
Even though his intention was to prevent political rivals from challenging his control, it led into an economic collapse in 1996. It was the end of his kleptocracy.
Many efforts have been conducted in order to save the country from this institutionalized corruption. It has been diminishing gradually but it continues in most states.
The CPI of Democratic Republic of The Congo is 22. It put them in 147th rank. It doesn’t seem to get better in the past years. This proves the difficulties of exterminating corruption that has gone too deep.
