Born as Edson Arantes do Nascimento, he used to play as a forward, but now he retired.

In 1958 he won his first major title with Santos as a team and won the Campeonato Paulista.

During that time, he finished the tournament as top scorer with 58 goals, a record that still stands today.

Wearing his number 10 shirt, Pelé produced one of the best performances of his career. He scored a hat-trick in Lisbon, which allowed Santos to win 5–2.

Today, he is widely regarded as the greatest football player of all time.  In 1961, Brazil President Jânio Quadros had Pelé declared a national treasure.
