Born in Romford, London, to his father Frank Lampard, Sr., the former West Ham United player, and his mother Pat, Frank attended Brentwood School.

He graduated in 1994 with eleven GCSEs, including an A* in Latin. Today he is the all-time leading goalscorer for Chelsea, where he played for 13 years.

Considered by a number of journalists and football experts as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, he is also a children’s books writer.

He started his career at West Ham United, just like his father. By the 1997-98 season, he secured a place in the first team. The following year, he helped the team finish fifth in the Premier League, their highest-ever ranking.

In 2001 he moved to Chelsea for £11 million where he played for 13 years. After Chelsea, he joined New York City FC on a two-year deal, in preparation for the club’s Major League Soccer debut in 2015.

While helping New York City FC he also played for Manchester City. Since he made his debut, he became a constant presence in the Chelsea first team.

During that time he made 164 consecutive Premier League appearances, a record for an outfield player.

He made a name for himself as a prolific scorer at the west London club and had played a key role of the sides which won Premier League titles.

In 2008 he signed a new contract, which made him the highest-paid Premier League footballer at that time. During that time he scored his first Champions League Final.

Since December 2015, he has been married to television presenter Christine Bleakley. Lampard currently serves as a team captain on the ITV sport panel show Play to the Whistle.

Lampard announced his retirement on 2 February 2017 after turning down several offers. He revealed that he is planning on becoming a football coach.

Fun fact: he has showed an unusually high IQ score during neurological research carried out by the Chelsea.
