Akon Net Worth: How rich is Akon? & How much money is Akon worth? Time to find out!
Akon is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, businessman, record producer and actor and his current net worth is $85 million.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri to a dancer mother and a percussionist father, Akon spent most of his childhood in the West African country Senegal.
He learned to play five instruments, including drums, and guitar from a young age.
His family moved to Union City, New Jersey and left him splitting his time between the U.S. and Senegal until remaining in Newark.
Akon had difficulties getting along with other children while growing up in New Jersey.
While there were in high school, his parents left him and his brother alone in Jersey, and they moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
He had to spend three years in jail, which is where he began to recognize his music abilities.
The president of Upfront Megatainment, Devyne Stephens, heard about Akon when the rapper Lil’ Zane brought him along to the rehearsal hall.
A beautiful friendship started between Akon and Stephens with Akon often stopping by to ask for advice.
Upon Akon losing his deal with Elektra, Stephens signed him to his production company and started grooming him professionally.
The records the pair recorded got the attention of Universal’s imprint SRC Records. The guys from SRC Records boarded a plane immediately to meet the young artist.
With a great mutual respect the pair hit it off in no time. Akon’s fame started to grow considerably after he began collaborating with overseas artists.
Among the artists he had collaborations with are Savage and hip-hop producer P-Monkey.
Akon released his solo album called Trouble in 2014. The album had records like Locked Up and Lonely, which became instant hits.
Most of Akon’s songs start with the sound of the clank of a jail cell’s door with him uttering the word “Konvict”.
His album also reached to #1 in the UK in April 2005.
Few years later he started his new record label Kon Live Distribution under Interscope Records.
Apart from his musical career he is the owner of his clothing line, Konvict Clothing. The line features urban streetwear including denim jeans, T-shirts and hats.
