Born in New Jersey as the daughter of John Helbig and Theresa McGinnis, Grace attended Gateway Regional High School in Woodbury Heights.
She has two brothers, the older one John and a younger one Tim. While in school she became a successful track star and medal-winner pole-vaulter.
Grace graduated summa cum laude from Ramapo’s School of Contemporary arts. While a student at the university she started a sketch comedy group called Baked Goods along with her best friend, Michelle Akin.
She would go to the Peoples Improv Theater in New York to take improv classes growing up.
Today she is the creator and host of the YouTube channel it’sGrace as well as Not Too Deep podcast with Grace Helbig.
Between 2008 and 2013 she started and hosted My Damn Channel web series DailyGrace.
While house-sat for a family in New Jersey, she started a daily vlog to alleviate boredom and keep herself occupied.
She started the vlog on her personal channel GracieHinABox to share her house sitting experience.
A year later along with her college roommate Michelle Akin started the Grace n’ Michelle YouTube channel.
Rob Barnett, the CEO and founder of My Damn Channel, discovered her personal channel though her profile and offered her a job. She started hosting her own video blog web series on the My Damn Channel website.
That’s how DailyGrace started in 2008, with new episodes published weekday.
After four years of posting on My Damn Channel, they released a statement announcing that Grace had chosen not to come back. Going forward she launched her formerly and secondary channel it’sGrace as her main channel.
Her departure from My Damn Channel increased her it’sGrace subscribers, from under 87,000 to over half million in less than a year.
As of May 2017, the it’sGrace YouTube channel has over 3 million subscribers and over 261 million video views.
Helbig starred in a hybrid comedy/talk show for E! named The Grace Helbig Show. The series lasted eight episodes and ended June 7, 2015. She has appeared in numerous commercials, as well as appeared as herself on various television shows and talk shows.
