The company explains that ‘everything happens behind the scenes,’ meaning all technology is neatly built into the round plate below the record and you have an unobstructed view of whichever album you choose to spin.
Manufactured in Holland, by Miniot, the tiny family-run company known for its meticulously handcrafted cases for phones and tablets, this turntable is one of a kind.
Its tonearm and stylus are located under the record, inside the cavity of the rotating platter.
Thanks to that feature your records spin counterclockwise, with the Wheel able to be hung on the wall to disorient your friends even more.
And because it’s from Miniot, the tonearm is milled from a single piece of laminated mahogany, while Wheel’s base will be offered in choices of mahogany, walnut, or cherry.
That stick at the center controls all the functions: on / off, pause / play, and volume and will let you skin between songs.
As cool as it might look, let’s not forget this is a Kickstarter project and that means there’s risk involved for the buyer.
If we were to put a number to that risk it will be €568, which is about 30 percent of the expected retail price of €806 ($850) whenever Wheel reaches production status.
