Born in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico, she has a sister, Karoline, and a brother, Michael.
Her family moved to Los Angeles when she turned 4 years old and she spent her childhood in Colton, California.
Since she turned 6 years old, she started taking piano lessons, thanks to her grandmother, who inspired her in music and art.
She began listening to the Ramones, Misfits, and other punk rock bands at the age of 12. For her tattoos, she credits her Latino culture of Los Angeles as a major influence.
After she got her first tattoo at 14 years old, she quit school two years later to become a tattoo artist.

She appeared in two seasons of Miami Ink, the reality TV show for the cable network TLC.
They offered her a position after Darren Brass broke his elbow, preventing him from tattooing.
But she had to leave the show after she had a falling out with the shop’s owner, Ami James.
After this, she acquired her own TLC series, LA Ink, which chronicled her work at her tattoo shop, High Voltage Tattoo, in Hollywood, California.
On the show, she broke a record certified by Guinness World Record of most tattoos given by a single person in 24 hours, with a total of 400.
She tattooed a logo for the city of Los Angeles, which she also designed, with proceeds going to the children’s-blindness charity Vitamin Angels.
Her ex-husband, Oliver Peck broke her record, followed by others; as of 2008, the record is held by Hollis Cantrell from Artistic Tattoo in Phoenix, Arizona with 801.
Kat’s show ran for four seasons ending in September 2011, after TLC announced its cancellation.
After the show ended, she continued with her work, as well as released a book, High Voltage Tattoo, compiling her artworks and tattoos. The book reached #6 on The New York Times Best Seller list.
A while after, she released her second book, The Tattoo Chronicles, an illustrated diary following a year in her life. The book reached #3 on The New York Times “Hardcover Advice & Misc.” Best-Seller list.

A few years later, she created and launched a make-up line for Sephora. During the next years, she released new collections every year and has expanded her line to include fragrances as well.
