A Luxury Hotel Will Open at Chateau de Versailles
Haven’t you heard that a luxury hotel will open at Chateau de Versailles?
At one of France’s greatest landmarks will be opened one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
The Sun King Louis XIV’s Chateau de Versailles, as you all know, is a true work of French classical art.
Located just outskirts of Paris, the palace is famous among tourist, and seven million visitors are coming to see it, every year.
It isn’t enough that is France’s greatest landmarks; the Chateau de Versailles is also country’s most visited place.
But that’s about to change, a bit. Due to budget cuts this year, a call to tender was released for three of the Chateau’s building to be converted into a luxury hotel, which is expected to change the situation in good.
Originally built as a hunting lodge, which the King Louis XVI then turned into his main residence, Chateau has been France’s main seat of power in 1682 until the French Revolution in 1789.
Because of its beautiful architecture and not only that, this palace is a UNESCO heritage site for over thirty years.
One of world’s most splendid architectural feats and a must-go place for visitors around the world.
If you remember, last summer the Journal du Dimanche announced that because of the cuts from state funding, which this year went from $53 million to $45 million, the palace is forced to look elsewhere to sustain its expenditures.
So, they decided a luxury hotel might be a great idea. The plans are, that the hotel to be located just outside Chateau’s grounds on the rue de l’Indépendence Américaine.
The hotel will spread across 2,800 m2 and will incorporate the buildings of the Petit Controle and the Pavillon des premières cent marches as well as the Hotel du Grand Controle.
The estimated costs of renovating the building, which are in a bad shape, are between 8 million- 14 million euro ($9-$15.5 million).
“Turning these crumbling buildings into a hotel is a great way of getting them renovated – they are an important part of our heritage so we shouldn’t let them fall apart,” resident Mr Fabien Martin says.
“There’s more to Versailles than the Chateau, as beautiful as it may be, so this hotel should bring more dynamism to the old village area close to the palace.”
Plans to turn the building, disused since 2008, into a 23-room boutique hotel were originally instigated in 2011 before being abandoned.
Not much we know about this project than some rooms of the hotel will have praised views of the Chateau’s magnificent Orangerie.
