Plácido Domingo Net Worth: How rich is Plácido Domingo? & How much money is Plácido Domingo worth? Time to find out!

Plácido Domingo is Spanish tenor, conductor and arts administrator and his current net worth is $230 million.

Born in Madrid, Spain to a couple of singers, he moved to Mexico with his family, just before his eighth birthday.

His parents knew he would become a musician from the age of five, because of his ability of hum complex music.

After his family moved to Mexico, he won a singing contest for boys. His parents started a zarzuela company and would often recruit him and his sister for children’s parts in their productions.

From a young age he used to study piano, at first privately and then as an alumni at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City. He entered at the age of 14.

While there he also took conducting classes as well as studying voice under Carlo Morelli.

He never studied privately with a voice coach, he only took conservatory classes.

At 16 he made his first professional appearance accompanying his mother on the piano at a concert.

The same year he also made his big zarzuela debut in Manuel Fernandez Caballero’s Gigantes y cabezudos (es), where he sang in baritone role.

During that period he used to work for his parents’ company, with him taking several baritone roles and acting as an accompanist for other artists.

In 1958, he had his first performance as a tenor when he replaced an ill singer, but he feared the part might be too high for him.

In the late ’58 he played the tenor role of Rafael in the Spanish opera El Gato Montes. The following year he starred at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara where he appeared in the baritone role.

Apart from his work with zarzuelas,  he had a minor role in the first Latin American production of the musical My Fair Lady.

There he also worked as the assistant conductor as well as the assistant coach.

While he worked there, the company gave 185 performances of the musical in various cities in Mexico.

After auditioning for the Mexico National Opera as a baritone, he went to National Opera as a tenor comprimario and as a tutor for other singers.

He considered the minor role of Borsa in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Palacio de Bellas Artes as his operatic debut.

While at the National Opera, he also appeared in a production of Lehár’s operetta, The Merry Widow.

To earn extra cash he played the piano for a ballet company, as well as for a program on Mexico’s cultural television station.

He also provided song arrangements and backup vocals for a rock-and-roll band led by César Costa,  in the late 1950s.

Throughout his career he has recorded over a hundred completed operas. He is famous for his versatility, regularly performing in many languages.

He has performed 147 different roles as well as achieving significant success as a crossover artist.
