14. Rough Childhood
Drake took the Canadian TV job for a reason, he needed the money. He said his mother was very sick and they couldn’t afford a living. And that was not the only thing he had to go through during his childhood life.
His parents got divorced when he was just five years old. And it’s never easy growing up from a broken home regardless the situation. He stayed with his mother, who is a Jewish Canadian. This brought another issue to his childhood. Because of his racial and religious background, he was often bullied in school.
And this kept going on even when he was a teenager studying at higher level of education. This, added by the fact that his class schedule got in the way of his acting career, he dropped out of school.
His relationship with his absentee father was not easy either. He is an African American practicing Catholic. And he moved back to Tennessee after splitting up. We’ll talk more about this on the following pages.
