We continue our “How to become a modern gentleman” story-line with a very important step, and today we’re going to talk about how you should dress.
Because we all know the first impression matters the most, and we live in a world where you get judged by your appearance, the most important thing you need to do in order to be a modern gentleman, is to look like one.
And how exactly does a modern gentleman looks like, you might ask yourself. Well, we’re here to give you the answer.
A true gentleman will always catch your eye, with his posture, confidence, and with the carefully selected outfits, and if you really want to upgrade your lifestyle, you’ll learn how to do it too.
If you’ll take the time to browse the internet a bit, you’ll find a variety of steps to take in order to learn how to dress like a gentleman.
But we’re going to keep it simple, and teach you the easiest way to do just that. And we’re going to start by letting you know that not everything you read online applies to you.
Why is that? It’s simple, because we all have a different body, with different shapes and measures, and that’s the first thing you have to keep in mind.
An outfit should be personalized, and represent you, because you don’t want to wear something in which you won’t feel comfortable. That’s because it will affect your confidence, and wearing something with confidence is the most important thing.
Wanting to dress well does not mean that you suddenly have to pay a whole lot of attention to fashion or be aware of all the trends, but you’ll want to invest in quality materials.
The general rule here is quality over quantity, so don’t rush into buying a lot of things that you won’t wear. It’s simple, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it.
Suit up!
You won’t turn heads in sportswear or flip-flops, so if you’re not going at the beach, for a run, or at the gym, you won’t be needing those outfits on you.
As I told you, quality over quantity, so the best way to do so, is to own at least one tailor made suit. This way you’l know that it will fit you perfectly.
We don’t want you to end up with a too large, or too small suit which looks awful on you, just because you chose the less expensive way to go, and bought it from a mall or something.
So write this down on your to do list: best friend a good tailor!
Shoes
You can’t wear sandals to your new tailor made suit right? So the next step you’ll have to take is to buy at least one proper pair of shoes.
So boys, if you want to transform into a modern gentleman, it’s time to put the sneakers back in the closet, and start wearing shoes more often.
Here too, the quality rule applies. If you have a cheap looking pair of shoes, they will bring down the whole outfit, so choose wisely, and remember to keep them spotless.
Ties / Bow Ties
Here, the main goal is to match the tie/bow tie with your shirt or suit, not the other way around.
Try your best to buy nice ties, and keep in mind, that nice does not necessarily mean expensive. If you have some sense of quality, you’ll find the right thing.
It’s pointless to say you should avoid buying shiny/glossy ties. Matte and textured finishes make ties much easier to wear and help deflect attention to your outfit as a whole.
As for the colors, experiment, mix and match, try new combinations, until you find the one that suits you the best.
Watches
No outfit is complete without a watch. It will give you the boost of elegance you’re searching for, and obviously, it’s practical.
