Fantasy Landscapes on Planet Earth

Fantasy Landscapes on Planet Earth

So today I was watching some fantasy cartoons, and since I’m a nature lover, I though to write an article about fantasy landscapes on Planet Earth.

[ads1]

I remember the first time when I left my hometown and went on a roadtrip. I was much younger and everything was different. I had the impression I landed on another planet. Fantasy places. But nothing compares with these landscapes.

You can see for yourself that these landscapes look out of the ordinary, or as I like to call them, are alien landscapes.

Let’s start our top list of the  fantasy landscapes.

#5 The Fly Geyser, Nevada, USA

You can find this fantasy element also known as Fly Ranch Geyser in Washoe County, Nevada. Actually, there are 2 alien-lookig geysers. The element was created in 1916 during well drilling, but only in 1960 it started to spill water. Fun fact : The Fly Geyser was made by humans, and here comes the funny part, it was made by accident. The first geyser was created 100 years ago and it should have been a desert usable for farming. After a well was drilled, a 120foot calcium carbonate cone formed. In 1964, an energy company did a test and drilled a well at the same location. The water was 200 degrees, which was not hot enough for their purpose. The well was then released and a second geyser formed.

#4 Canos Cristales, Colombia

You can find this fantasy beauty in the Serrania de la Macarena province of Meta.Canos Cristales is the name of a Colombian river, which you may also known as The River of Five Colors and The Liquid Rainbow. You can image why it’s called The Liquid Rainbow. The river is a combination of colors, such as yellow, blue, black, green, and most of all, red. It is filled with Macarenia clavigera (or Podostemaceae). These spectacular rocks are 1.2 billion years old and together they create one of the most fantasy landscapes on Planet Earth.

#3 The Eye of Africa, Mauritania

The Eye of Africa or The Richat Structure is a geological circular structure located in the Sahara desert of course, near Ouadane. It looks like we were hit by some asteroid or it’s a cyclop’s eye. Its diameter is about 48 km. Explanation? Erosion took place, but scientists can’t explain yet why it’s circular.

#2 The Ponds of Hell, Japan

Welcome to Hell! 9 ‘Hells’ combined formed The Ponds of Hell, or The Nine Hells of Beppu. These are Blood Pond Hell ( or Chinoike Jigoku), Ocean Hell ( or Umi Jigoku), Jigoku Geyser Hell (or Tatsumaki), Shaven Head Hell (or Oniishibozu Jigoku), Devil or Monster Mountain Hell (or Oniyama Jigoku), White Pond Hell (or Shiraike Jigoku), Golden Dragon Hell (or Kinryu Jigoku), Cooking Pot Hell (or Kamado Jigoku), Mountain Hell (or Yama Jigoku). Each of these fantasy ponds have their own color and character, because of their different mineral composition. Although each pond is different, they have something in common. They all make great fantasy landscapes.

#1 Salar de Uyuni, Salt Flat, Bolivia

We’ve reached our #1 from this top list. We choose this to be #1 because let’s be serious. What can be more out of the ordinary, fantastic than the image of someone who can walk on water? Or at least, he thinks that he can.
Although it appears like that, the ‘water’ is just salt and the sky is reflecting. Salar de Uyuni or also known as Salar de Tunupa is the largest salt flat in the world and contains 10 billion tonnes of salt. You may think that flora and fauna doesn’t exist here. You can find here James flamingo, Bolivian vizcacha, Culpeo, Andean goose etc.

We hope you enjoyed our article about fantasy landscapes on Planet Earth. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
