13. Natural Pearl and Diamond Ear Pendants ($2 million)
Elizabeth Taylor was pampered not only by her husbands. Even her friends would give her such amazing gifts like these natural pearl and diamond ear pendants. It was Aaron Frosch, an attorney, who gave these to her.
These are not just ordinary ear pendants. These were designed by Bulgari in 1972. Each of the suspending is a drop-shaped natural pearl and is detachable. One pearl measures around 12 x 18 mm. But the other one is around 12 x 17 mm.
The surmount set is a button-shaped natural pearl measuring around 15 x 11.6 mm and 14.8 x 10.75 mm. Each is mounted in platinum. And the two different shaped pearls are connected by a link of circular-cut and marquise-cut diamonds.
Christie’s estimated these earrings’ value only around $400,000 to $600,000. But the bids went on up to nearly $2 million. An anonymous buyer took it home after bidding $1,986,500.
