Microsoft’s Surface Book Laptop looks quite cool. The laptop is by far the most compelling device they have ever made.
It has an attractive design, it’s super powerful, yet light and thin. It’s the gadget we have all be waiting for.
This laptop is more than you think; it isn’t just new and different, the Surface Book has the craziest things you’ve ever seen.
After years of launching ‘ok-ish’ gadgets, Microsoft has stepped out and come up with this beauty.
When you look past its gorgeous design, you realize that’s just a laptop. They have spent years to come up with devices not many people use, but this time Microsoft built one device that’s on everyone’s taste.
As a showcase for Windows 8, they said that Surface was made ‘to bring Windows into the physical realm’, when they first launched it in 2012. As you know, W8 was based on a single idea, which was all about ‘Touch is the future’.
This laptop wasn’t made to convince people of a new technology, but as a laptop to replace your old laptop.
When the base and display of this device are docked together, the result is one of the best Windows PCs on the planet.
For $1,499 and up, you get a high-end Intel processor, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, 12-hour battery life, and lots more.
The Surface Book starts at $1,499 for a Core i5, 8GB RAM, and a 128GB PCIe SSD. But there’s a catch: that system doesn’t include a discrete GPU.
The cheapest Surface Book with the discrete GPU is $1,899. That’s still a Core i5 with 8GB, though it also ups the storage to 256GB. The top spec is a Core i7 with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, and that costs an eye-watering $2,699.
A great tool for editing video and photos and a killer gaming machine, this device is great.
And just like the Surface Pro 3 before it, Microsoft is using magnetism on the Surface Book, which is a laptop but also a tablet. It is just like an animal, which folds into place to let you adjust the display viewing angle.
The trick of the Surface Book is that everything, apart from the Nvidia graphics chip, is contained within the screen. Meaning, you can hit a button and it magically detaches from the 13.5-inch display.
The “dynamic fulcrum hinge,” as Microsoft calls it, is an unusual design. With the system closed, it’s semicircular, but open it up and it unrolls, slightly enlarging the footprint of the machine. This helps keep the system balanced when it’s on your lap.
But Microsoft is still committed to the 2-in-1 concept, and the Surface Book doesn’t buck that trend.
The screen is an astonishingly thin, albeit rather large, it has a 13.5-inch, 3000×2000 screen, like a standalone tablet.
Hold it like a clipboard, draw on it with a pen, poke at it with your finger, whatever you do, it won’t mind.
