The Billionaire Hamdi Ulukaya Donates Half of his Wealth to Help the Refugees
This CEO, the billionaire Hamdi Ulukaya is donating half of his fortune to help the refugees.
And the Ealuxer of the week award goes to Hamdi Ulukaya, a divorced man with no children.
As you know, Emil, the Syrian refugee crisis is one of the worst of our lifetime, and there seems not to be an end or a simple solution for all this.
All we can do is help and pray for this to get better. How can we help? By donating money. Countries need money to feed the refugees, and refugees need food and a place to stay.
Until the situation is resolved somehow, there are people who care about the fate of these refugees.
For example, the Turkish-born U.S. billionaire Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and CEO of Chobani Yogurt, is making everything he can to help the refugees.
The refugees from Syria have been traveling across the Mediterranean Sea and into Europe and into Europe over the past several months in search for a better life from their war-torn home country.
You know that Syria has been involved in a civil was from more than four years, and lately concerns about ISIS have driven more people out than ever to take refuge abroad.
According to estimations, nearly four million Syrians have crossed the border into Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and other countries.
Seeing this, the U.S. billionaire Hamdi Ulukaya said that he will donate at least half of his wealth, approximately $700 million of his $1.41 billion to help the ones in need.
By doing that, he has officially joined The Giving Pledge, under the Giving Pledge, he will start a new foundation called Tent.
He went a step further and announced that he would also be giving refugees jobs at his Chobani factories.
They will be among the 600 refugees who are currently working for the upstate New York Chobani plant.
That company is the world’s best-selling Greek yogurt, which is also one of the America’s biggest companies.
Back in 2007 Ulukaya founded Chobani in 2005 and started making Greek yogurt in 2007.
Ulukaya is the type of person who believes the system for processing and resettling refugees is broken and in need for serious change. He also thinks that the government and UN efforts have been ineffectual and the crisis should have never reached its current level.
Besides Syria, there are thousands of asylum seekers from the Middle East and Africa trying to flee war and persecution, and Ulukaya intends to help as many of them as he can.
