14. Antilia, India ($2 billion | $2.19 billion today)
Located in Mumbai, India is our 14th most expensive building, Antilia. Don’t get it confused with Antillia the phantom island from the 15th century, even though it was inspired by it. This Antilia is a private residence.
Shocking, isn’t it? This 173-meter high building is not an apartment complex or hotel. It is owned personally by Mukesh Ambani. It seems like he enjoys living inside the 27-floor house by himself.
Designed by Perkins and Will, it was built in 2010. The construction cost was $2 billion or $2.19 billion today.
Although some people (definitely including the owner) are proud of having it colors the Mumbai’s skyline, not few of them think that it is such a shameful contrast to the surrounding poor slums.
