The Twilight Express Mizukaze is Japan’s Newest Luxurious Train

Ever wanted to see Kyoto and Osaka but you wanted a luxurious way to travel?

Well, turns out now you have an opportunity thanks to Japan’s newest luxurious train called the Twilight Express Mizukaze!

Unveiled by West Japan Railway Co., this 10-coach luxury “Twilight Express Mizukaze” train is already super popular, with months away before the start of its journey through western Japan.

“The train realises the concept of a hotel running through beautiful Japan. We hope to offer a new standard of rail travel,” West Japan Railway President Tatsuo Kijima said as he introduced Mizukaze to the press.

For its 368 rooms, which were available between June and September last year, there were a total of 2,022 applicants who wanted to buy a ticket, according to the company.

That many people wanted to spend a night on the ultra-luxurious train from Japan, and it isn’t cheap.

A one-night tour with a room for two people is priced at $2,400, while the price for a suite starts from $6,700.

And as I was saying at the beginning, this ultra-luxurious, super modern trail will run from Kyoto and Osaka to Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture and return via coastal areas facing the Sea of Japan.

Why I keep calling this train ultra-luxurious you ask? Well, it is because the train features bathtubs, skylights and separate restaurant and bar, among other amenities.

And don’t get fooled by the industrial-looking exterior, because inside the train looks like a five-star hotel, which it essentially is, since passengers on the 10-car train will have private rooms equipped with beds, bathrooms, and bathing facilities.

And even if you’re not feeling particularly hungry or thirsty, you’ll want to stop by the two observation cars, which offer more expansive views than any of the other carriages.

The Twilight Express Mizukaze super luxurious train will offer four one-way overnight trips and one three-day, two-night circular route.

Four meals will be offered for each of the overnight journeys and seven for the three-day journey.

“We hope that passengers of the Twilight Express Mizukaze will enjoy the beautiful nature, and historical and cultural heritage of the Sanyo and Sanin regions,” JR West President Tatsuo Kijima told a news conference.
