Airbnb acquires Luxury Retreats to offer luxury villas to its rich users. If you thought that Airbnb only has cheap places to stay, think again because the company has extended its branches!
We believe that the company has realized that rich people need places to stay as well, and hotels begin to sound too mainstream.
After all if you go on vacation you go to treat yourself. And now thanks to Airbnb’s newest acquisition, you can certainly do just that.
Just a few days ago, Airbnb announced the acquisition of Montreal-based Luxury Retreats to its portfolio.
“From airbeds in an apartment to castles to villas, Airbnb has always been focused on providing a broad range of amazing experiences and trips,” said Airbnb’s co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky in a statement.
“And now, that range is growing even more expansive with the addition of Luxury Retreats’ properties. The company promises “high-quality listings, world class concierge service, and a range of amenities and the acquisition [that] will complement Airbnb’s work.”
The company offers more than 4,000 homes for you to choose from in 100 destinations around the world.
“Airbnb connects travelers with hosts offering unique local experiences and places to stay. On Airbnb, you can book homes and things to do, or start earning money as a host.”
How this acquisition works? It’s simple, for now Luxury retreats will remain a standalone company, but over time, its relationship with Airbnb will deepen. The Montreal-based company’s listings will be added to Airbnb’s database.
This is the biggest purchase Airbnb has made to date, with Bloomberg reporting that the company paid $300 million for the buy.

The Luxury Retreats Company is giving a lot of help to the San Francisco company to expand in an area where it has been a bit less variety, somewhere where Airbnb wasn’t able to enter before.
