Born in Chicago, moved to Atlanta at six years old, where he became interested in rap music.
At 14 he moved to Mississippi with his father who had a recording studio for him to explore his musical aspirations.
In 2005, he posted some of his songs on SoundClick, where he received positive reviews.
Then he opened accounts on YouTube and MySpace.
Two years later he released his first independent album titled Unsigned & Still Major: Da Album Before da Album.
He also recorded Crank That and provided a video where he showed us the dance moves.
The success of the song got him a deal with Interscope Records. Television series Entourage featured Crank That on an episode in 2007. The same year the song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and Hot RingMasters charts.
The same year he released his major label debut album, Souljaboytellem.com, released in US in October.
Souljaboytellem.com peaked at #4 on both Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.
The album nominated for a Grammy Awards, received a favorable review from Allmusic, but several negative reviews from other sources.
Many reviews credited his way of spearheading a new trend in hip-hop but believed that he would likely be a one-time hit.
The second album followed titled iSouljaBoyTellem in 2008 including the first single Bird Walk, which peaked at #40 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
The album, which received negative critical reviews as well, had another hit single, Kiss Me Thru the Phone, with Sammie.
Kiss Me Thru the Phone peaked at #3 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Rap Tracks charts.
He continued to release singles and albums as well as mixtapes, with the last one titled Ignorant Shit a joint retail mixtape with Bow Wow.
**He had a little brother, Deion Jenkins, who died in a car crash in 2011.
