Emma Thompson is a British actress and screenwriter and her current net worth is $55 million.

Born in Paddington, London, she is the daughter of Scottish actress Phyllida Law, and Eric Thompson, a writer-narrator.

She grew up in West Hampstead in north London, where she went to Camden School for Girls. Thompson spent much of her time in Scotland where her grandparents and uncle lived.

Growing up, she had a thing for language and literature, a trait which she attributes to her father, who shared her love of words.
