14. Louis Vuitton and a series of escalators – S/S 2013
Four escalators leading onto a giant yellow and white checkerboard floor, the Louis Vuitton S/S 2013 show was very matchy-matchy.
The fashion itself was 60s in its influence, featuring plenty of geometric shapes and contrasting colours, all matching the flooring. The show began with illuminated, empty escalators, with the models gradually coming down in twos, spaced out and completely still.
Louis Vuitton’s creative director at the time, Marc Jacobs, was a particular fan of escalators and used them in numerous shows, for reasons that will probably remain mysterious.
