9) Regional Scale Nodes -$76.6 million
Did you know that deep sea exploration is a lot closer than exploration of space? It’s true that we know so little about the oceans that make up the most of our planet.
Learning about the sea is important; to know about our own home and changes on our planet, but that doesn’t make it any less expensive and difficult.
The OOI (Ocean Observatories Initiative) is currently in the process of constructing its first major called observatory. They are ready to start for a whopping $76.6 million.
The observatory will be made up of cabled sensors that will measure physical and chemical changes in the ocean as well geology, atmosphere and biology.
