13. How rich is JK Rowling?
With the success of Harry Potter series and all others came along with it, it should come as no surprise that JK Rowling has bagged a lot of money. But since she kept her private life, including her wealth, to herself, no data of her net worth has ever been confirmed.
However, Forbes once listed her on its billionaire list with $1 billion of estimated net worth. And she was named as the first person to become a billionaire from writing books. But Rowling denied this by saying she does have a lot of money, but she is not a billionaire. A few years later, due to paying high British tax, she was dropped from the list.
Now, let see where this billionaire idea came from. Rowling definitely got truckload of money from her Harry Potter books sales and movie royalty. And recently, Fantastic Beasts movie hit box office and made her at least $50 million richer.
Not to mention her new business, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Today, there are three of them in Universal Studios of Orlando, Hollywood, and Japan. And for all kinds of sales there, she is getting her royalties. So, she should be making at least around $50 million a year from all of her ventures.
