During the Prohibition era the Ford Model T was fitted with a fake undercarriage to transport liquor from point A to point B. On the other hand, Donnie Brasco swore by the Cadillac Eldorado for a quick getaway.

But we’re going to try to offer some options which you can still find in circulation today if you want to know the Top 10 cars that give off mafia vibes.

1

Lincoln Continental Mark III-VIII (1969-1998)

Nothing says bad guy like the Lincoln Continental. The baroque coupe was a symbol of the top rung of the Cosa Nostra gang for 40 years. You would see a Lincoln Conti Mark III to VIII cruising the New York streets from the 1960s to the 1990s and know that they were up to no good. Behind the darkened windows you might spot Paul Castellano, Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski or even Carlos Gambino. The car was so iconic film, The Godfather, featured the 1941 Continental.

2

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

To the people of Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Yokahama, a black Mercedes S-Class with tinted windows holds a very specific stigma: that of the Yakuza’s favourite ride.

An S-class Mercedes from any generation suits the Yakuza and strikes fear in anyone on the wrong side of their strong arm. The Yakuza have very narrow branding perimeters when it comes to offices, dress code and even their unique walk. So, standardising their ride with a powerful flagship sedan like the S-class, is to be expected.

3

Maybach 57/62 (2003-Present)

Birdman once more brought the Maybach to mainstream attention when he added a 62 Landaulet model to his sprawling car collection. He dropped an estimated $1.45 million on these wheels.

The history of the Maybach’s inception was as a solution to the over-exposed and readily available S-Class and Escalade. Its design is like a bloated S-class chassis with a higher price tag. It never achieved the sales that Mercedes hoped for, but that’s exactly what makes this car so mafia worthy. It immediately became popular with Wall Street types, record label execs and third world dictators.

4

Maserati Quattroporte

Nothing says we run this Island like the Maserati Quattroporte. Its 2,000 kilograms of high performance that can cruise smoothly around the roads of Corleone. And the Sicilian Cosa Nostra being the OG mafia running the town is certainly “their thing.” And the 16 cubic feet of “cargo” room mean that they can clean up a lot of rubbish while look suave as hell.

Aluxers, if you love cars, we’d highly suggest you give Engines of Change, A History of the American Dream in Fifteen Cars a listen on Audible. We’ve got a free listen for you, so head to alux.com/freebook to claim yours.

5

Chevrolet Impala (1963-1964)

Another trunk heavy sedan you probably think of when it comes to classic mob movers, is the Chev Impala. This started out as a family car but soon became popular amount South Central gangbangers and drug-dealing Chicano lowriders. You can hardly find a West Coast rap video that doesn’t feature an Impala. The car had massive youth appeal and is beloved by a whole new generation of drivers still today.

The 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS coupe was featured in a totally different genre; the comedy: Up in Smoke. In the classic movie scene set in a beat-up Impala, Cheech Marin boasts to Tommy Chong, “I’ve been smokin’ since I was born. I can smoke anything.” In this case maybe he was talking about the tires of the Impala on the tar mac…but also maybe not!

6

Cadillac Escalade

For any Jersey Mobster in the “waste disposal industry” this is a popular ride. If you need space for the extended family, you can add extra seats or remove them for a little extra “luggage” space the Escalade has a model to suit your needs.

It packs a ton of power, 403 horsepower in total driven by a 6.2L V8 engine. We’re sure you’ll agree that this is one of the most baller multipurpose cars on the list with some serious Mafia game.

7

Chrysler 300C SRT-8

The Chrysler looks like a costly ride, but in reality, you can pick one up for $40,000 on the high end of the market. This luxury sedan has the maddest gangster swag and is a favourite with the Irish Mob. It’s not exactly under-stated, but perhaps more conspicuous than the final cars on our list coming up.

Chryslers famous safety features come standard, but its biggest boast is its fast getaway. How fast? Well 425 brake horse power is a lucky guess.

8

Ferrari F360/F430 (1999-2009)

There is nothing low key about this ride, in fact it’s so loud, its criminal. But this classic Ferrari, that was first released around the turn of the century, has clutchless shifting with the F1 paddle shift transmission. This, naturally, is perfect for smooth getaways, but certainly not quiet.

Whether you find yourself in the F360 or the follow up F430 – which was niftier, you will have fun, and a ton of mafia temperament when you roll up in one of these cars.

9

Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman (1963 to 1981)

Nothing says boss mobile like the Pullman. It’s 6 door precise and cold styled car is something between a limo and a hearse and depending on what side of the pistol you’re on, it could be your last ride.

It’s the ride of choice amongst the Russian Mafia, any year will do, the only requirement is that the car is black. The Pullman was the forerunner of the modern Maybach marque, with the gas guzzling capabilities of a Chev Suburban.

Before adding custom armour, it’s already a heavy weight carrying 6,000 pounds, and a price tag of $38,000 back when it was a brand-new ride. It smacks of new Russia’s excess and grandeur and has an imposing presence… like the mafia’s stronghold.

10

Rolls Royce Silver Ghost

We couldn’t have a list of this nature without including the Silver Ghost. As recently mentioned in our video: 15 Things Rich People Pay a Million Dollars For : Floyd Mayweather recently took ownership of one to add to his impressive collection.

The Silver Ghost was popular with mobsters in the Roaring ‘20s when juice joints were cool, and flappers were hot. Famous wise guys who cruised in a Rolls Royce silver ghost were the likes of Arnold Rothstein and Johnny Torrio.

Question:

Which of these mobster mobiles suit your inner gangster?
