N9. Luke Skywalker (with double-telescoping lightsaber) – $1000
When the production of the Star Wars figures was denied by the Mego Corporation, the license was offered to Kenner.
They didn’t know in what trouble they got into. By 1977 the demand for toys was so big that it got them totally unprepared.
To make the customers think everything is all right they turned the situation and created an “early bird” package where kids could send away for the first 4 figures when they became available.
And that’s what happened with our Luke figure. It was a part of that early release and came out with a rare double-telescoping lighsaber.
Later releases came with a simple one-piece lightsaber which makes the original more valuable for the collectors.
