15 Most Expensive Caskets and Coffins in The World

13. Robert Wadlow’s Casket: $4,500

As you probably can tell from the picture, this casket is not an ordinary casket. Forget what it was made of, just take a look at its enormous size!

Robert Wadlow, more commonly known as the Alton Giant, was the tallest person in the world. In fact, his record hasn’t been broken yet. He kept growing even until the day he died in 1940. He was only 22 years of age, but he was already 2.72-meter tall.

As he was performing at the Manistee National Forest Festival, Wadlow suffered from blister and infection because of irritation on his ankle. Unfortunately, it was difficult for him to recover because of his autoimmune disorder. Eleven days later, he died in his sleep.

It is obvious that there was no regular casket which could fit Wadlow’s body. So this casket was custom-made. For that, it cost around $4,500 to build. Wadlow is buried within this casket at the Oakwood Cemetery in Upper Alton, Madison County, Illinois.
