8The Tower of London, England – $89 billion
Also known as Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress, the Tower of London was founded by William the Conqueror on 1066.
Located in central London, on the North bank of the River Thames, the European monument was used as a prison from 1100 (Ranulf Flambard was imprisoned there by Rufus’ successor, Henry I of England) until 1952 (the Kray twins were imprisoned that year).
The monument has played a prominent role in English history and consists of The White Tower, which gives the entire castle its name.
Valued at $89 billion, this stunning fortress depicts a royal palace, a fortress and a prison, anything you’ll expect it to be.
If you believe in ghosts, well … it has been said that the ghost of Anne Boleyn, beheaded in 1536 for treason against Henry VIII, haunts the chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula.
Apparently, she walks around the White Tower carrying her head under her arm. Other reported ghosts include Lady Jane Grey, Henry VI, Margaret Pole and the Princes in the Tower.
