13. Sabanci (Estimated family net worth: $30 billion)
With estimated net worth of $30 billion, the Sabanci family is the richest in Turkey. The family company, called the Sabanci Holding, started way back in the 1930s. It was Haci Ömer Sabanci who started a textile company back then.
Since then, the company has expanded to many other industries. In fact, some of the Sabanci family members have founded their own companies. One of them is Demsa and Esas Holding which owns Pegasus Airlines.
The Sabanci Holding itself is currently lead by Haci’s granddaughter, Güler. She is the first woman in the family to run the company. She is in charge with the biggest portion of the family net worth as the holding has $16-billion worth of revenue. And that puts it as the second largest conglomerate in Turkey.
Besides the family holding company, Güler is also the founding president of Sabanci University and Sabanci Foundation, which is the largest private charity in the country. Her influences have granted her a position in Forbes’s Top 100 Power Women.
