13. Having a Serious Fun at a Warm up Tournament
Unlike most Grand Slams, Wimbledon comes at the early stage of the grass court season. The players only have around two weeks since the end of clay court season to get started on this type of court.
Thus, a preparation is needed. Some choose to compete in lower class tournaments. Some others, like Djokovic, choose to take a rest and return to compete on exhibitions just days before the Grand Slam.
These exhibition matches do not affect their championship points. Plus, the rules are not as strict as official tournaments. So, the players join the exhibition to warm up their muscles, to get used to the new type of court, as well as to have fun with the crowd.
The Boodles, been on since 1798, takes place a few days right before Wimbledon. For 11 years, Djokovic has been taking part and bringing fun to tennis enthusiasts!
