This Wrecked Mercedes Benz S550 is Jordan Griska’s New Art Project

Check out a New Form of Art Thanks to Jordan Griska’s Wreck Mirrored Steel Sculpture

Jordan Griska’s Wreck mirrored steel sculpture is the artist’s latest project.

This artist name Jordan Griska took a wrecked American dream car and totally transformed it into a sparkling sculpture.

His art project included 12,000 laser-cut pieces of mirrored stainless steel glued to the luxury Mercedes Benz S550.

Jordan’s new sculpture brightens and solemnizes its haunt in Philadelphia’s historic past, with its depiction of wrecked Mercedes in all its glory.

Reflecting its surroundings with a splintered and imperfect view, this art project is a masterpiece.

As Griska himself explains in his Artist’s Statement, “my work increases awareness of objects’ pasts and symbolic qualities as they relate to American identity in order to invite viewers to imagine alternative futures.”

Requiring all the patience in the world, this project has a design entirely made from reflective stainless steel.

What is the meaning behind it?

Because you know, like any other piece of art, it has to have a hidden meaning behind. One that not everyone would get. But we have!

The piece, meant to highlight both luxury and mortality from a new perspective, Jordan Griska‘s 2016 sculpture Wreck.

The Wreck, a non-functional model of a Mercedes Benz perfectly mirrors its surroundings.

“The sculpture mirrors the peak of today’s automobile industry by using digital technology and meticulous handcraft to subvert both utopian dreams and reality.” Is what a Philadelphia Contemporary executive explained in a statement about the piece.

“Spectacular and haunting, Wreck captures the dual nature of American culture by contrasting wealth, freedom, and individuality with decadence, debauchery, and tailspin, as flip sides of the same coin.”

Where he presented it?

Presented at Philadelphia’s Pier 9 with Philadelphia Contemporary, this sculpture took everyone’s breath away.

You can check his website, if you want to see more works of the New York-based artist’s works, including his this art project.
