The most expensive baseball card ever sold in an auction is the Honus Wagner: 1909-1911 T206.
Not everyone collects baseball cards or likes baseball, so you may not know who Honus Wagner was.
John Peter ‘Honus’ Wagner was a famous anti-tobacco baseball player who objected the fact that his image should be used on cigarette boxes as a part of a promotion.
Ironically the baseball card is a rare tobacco card issued by the American Tabacco Company in 1909.
He used to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates team. Also, he was one of the first players who had been introduced into the “Baseball Hall of Fame”.
By being one of the first five players included into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Wagner is considered one of the greatest baseball players in the world.
Played in several defensive positions and the most notably shortstop and won eight National League batting titles.
“The Flying Dutchman”, because that was his nickname, was also the first player to have his signature on a Louisville Slugger Bat.
He retired with more than 3,000 hits and garnered 215 votes in the first Hall of Fame balloting.
One of the 50 specimens, this card belonged to a 1909 set. The set known as the T206 set is the most collected set of baseball cards ever.
Is a PSA 8 card, which is considerate being the highest surviving grade of a card. It makes you wonder how that card managed to stay intact after being passé through so many hands.
Because its journey wasn’t easy, I tell you that.
Until finally found its owner Ken Kendrick who paid $2.8 million for the card.
By paying the huge amount of money, the card made its way into the Guinness World Records for the highest recorded price ever paid for a baseball card.
