17. Cambodia
Like Burundi, Cambodia scored 21 on its CPI according to Transparency International. In 2012, it actually scored 22. Things just don’t seem to get better for Cambodia.
The most common areas of corruption in Cambodia are dealing with alleged traffic violations and obtaining medical services. For companies which looking to get license and permit, prepare some extra cash for bribes.
That is pretty common in the process. This makes Cambodia the most corrupt country in Southeast Asia (ASEAN).
It’s not like they don’t have Anti-Corruption Law. They do have it. But get this, whistle-blowers are facing up to 6 months of jail time if the corruption they reported cannot be proven. Why bother, then?
