9Charles Luciano
Charles Luciano, born Salvatore Lucania, was an Italian-born American mobster.
Also known as Lucky Luciano, he is considered the father of modern organized crime in the US. Why? Because Lucky Luciano succeeded to divide New York City into 5 different Mafia crime families.
Also, he was the first official boss of the modern Genovese crime family.
Luciano was born on November 24, 1897 and died of a heart attack at Naples International Airport, on January 26, 1962.
And 300 people attended his funeral, held in Naples.
An interesting fact about the gangster is that he never had any children, and a more interesting fact is the reason for that, which the explained : ‘I didn’t want no son of mine to go through life as the son of Luciano, the gangster. That’s one thing I still hate Dewey for, making me a gangster in the eyes of the world.’
And Dewey stands for Thomas E. Dewey, an attorney, a special prosecutor to combat organized crime in New York City.
