12. Jaguar XKSS ($7.3 million)
If you have read some of our articles about most expensive cars, you will get the sense of a pattern which goes into the making of world’s most luxurious and costliest. That pattern is building the road version of race-winning cars.
This 1957 Jaguar XKSS is a fine example to that. Built as the road version of Jaguar D-Type, it is arguably the most popular classic car from Jaguar. So popular that it is going to be relaunched limited to nine units on its 60th anniversary this year.
Ralph owns the original 1957 model. There were only sixteen of them built. The Jaguar D-Type car itself won several legendary Le Mans 24-hour races for three years in a row (1955-1957).
And according to Hagerty.com, the 1975 Jaguar XKSS is worth around $7.3 million. Besides Ralph Lauren, two other world renowned people were willing to spend that much money to own this Jaguar XKSS. They are the legendary Steve McQueen who call his Jaguar the ‘Green Rat’, and James Hull.
