12. Equipped with 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive
Besides a powerful engine, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class will also be equipped with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. This all-wheel-drive system provides the best traction system which channels the power to where traction is best.
In case of extreme off-road conditions, the rear differential and the inter-axle differential can be locked. This will make it possible to safely master difficult obstacles and inclines.
Mercedes developed this system in conjunction with Steyr-Daimler-Puch (currently Magna Steyr), who manufactured the Mercedes-Benz G-Class in Austria. It was first introduced on the E-Class back in 1987.
There have been three generations of 4MATIC system. As years gone by, the system gets less complex yet more efficient in increasing traction. And Mercedes-Benz X-Class will use the latest system which includes engine and automatic stability control.
