The Legendary Nikon One, the Oldest Remaining Camera Was Sold for $460k

Not as expensive as the most expensive camera in the world, but close enough; this Nikon managed to get sold for $406,000.

There is an unwritten rule that old is always good and it’s worth even more than the current products, just like it happens to cars and other objects from the past. What can I say; back they were putting a lot more effort into making good things, unlike today.
And the same rule it applies to this super rare Nikon camera, a piece of history that was recently auctioned for $406,000, which in many cases is more than a house.

This collectible has got everyone excited for the auction, mostly because it was sold alongside the camera’s original F2 Nikkor H lens, as well as the original double strap case.
But that’s the only thing that got people talking, no. This legendary Nikon One it comes with an interesting inscription that reads ‘made in occupied Japan’.
Considering all that, now that’s a catch, isn’t it?
The camera was first released simply as the Nikon, but it took the name Nikon One later after the release of the M and S models.

While the Nikon One was valued at around $190,000, it opened the bidding at $95,000 before eventually selling for $406,000, including fees and premiums.
The sale took place at the WestLicht Photographica auction that brought together a collection of over 600 antique cameras, lenses and photography accessories, including two fabulous Leica gun-rifles as well as a gorgeous Leica M3 camera.
In case you missed hearing about this camera the first time around, here’s what the auction’s description stated:
“The earliest known surviving production Nikon in the world! Nikon started in March 1948 to assemble cameras (with serial number 60922). The offered camera is one of two cameras made in April 1948 and the 3rd of all Nikon production cameras. It comes with the original early Nikkor-H 2/5cm no.70811 (this is the 11th lens made, with matching Nikon cap) and is still in fantastic original condition.”
Although the company itself was founded in 1917, it had been making lenses for Canon bodies until the late 40s when it decided to make the Nikon One, of which less than one thousand were manufactured.
