This gin is made from ingredients sent into space, because why not. Unlike other gins that are squeezed out of the eyes of unicorns (really?), this one is made from materials sent into few men got the chance to be.
This particular gin features botanicals sent to the edge of space and vacuum-distilled next to a real moon rock.
Among all those expensive gins, we never heard of one made with ingredients sent to space. Like what’s next, ingredients from the moon?
Prepared by distilling materials like Juniper, Coriander, Cubeb, pepper and fresh lemon peel, this gin also has moon rock.
Sent into near space, over 24km on March 7th 2017, each ingredient used to make this alcoholic beverage went through air pressure of less than 1/100th of a sea level.
After they sent it into space with a help of a weather balloon, they mixed all the ingredients together and got the Moonshot Gin.
Tunbridge Wells-based independent gin bottler, That Boutique-Y Gin Company, created this special gin.
“We sent botanicals to space, it’s as simple as it sounds,” says Michael Vachon from Maverick Drinks, a distributor that works with the company.
“We took a wide variety of botanicals and worked with a company called ‘Send it to Space.com’ and they sent all the botanicals up to space, or near space, by a weather balloon, these things come back down, we have distilled them and put them into our gin.”
They’ve told us everything including the secret ingredient, which is the moon rock.
How much for a bottle of this gin?
The gin launched in March is available for shipping with bottles priced at $42.
Vachon says they’ve already sold hundreds and are making plans to send more botanicals into near-space due to the demand. “I think people just love being part of that story,” he says.
“They love knowing that every botanical in here was sent up in a weather balloon, high above the Earth‘s atmosphere and you can watch the story and actually feel a part of it.”
