Celia Sawyer is a star on Channel 4’s collectible reality TV show Four Rooms.
For the interior decorator Celia Sawyer, nothing seems too hard to do. She was commissioned to design and built, for a Middle Eastern client, a ‘over-the-top’ 24 carat gold bathtub.
Described by her as the ‘ultimate status symbol and opulence gone mad’ this bathtub is adorned with 250,000 clear and topaz crystals.
The designer knows a thing or two about luxury and extravagance, and is understandable as she is called ‘the Queen of Bling’.
Joined Miss Sawyer to the project, is the Epping-based goldsmith Robert Grace, who specializes in gold leaf mosaics for what he calls “super-luxury sanitary ware”.
He and his handy team of three craftsmen designed the tub from yellow, lemon and white gold.
He described it as a “tactile synthesis of color” and added that in the UK there is also a demand for these kinds of goods.
“Bathrooms have become the most important room in the house and people love to show them off. It’s all about vanity and when you can amaze your friends with something like this then it’s job done. You’ve made your point,’ said Sawyer.
Coming back to Celia Sawyer; she has an impressive list of top clients, including bling-happy premier league footballers.
A couple of names she mentioned include Chelsea player Cesc Fàbregas and former premier league manager Harry Redknapp. However, she refused to tell us the name of the Middle Eastern buyer of this opulent gold crystal bathtub.
There is one little problem; the tub doesn’t have taps. So, if you want a tub just like this for you, make sure you include a separately budget for 24 karat gold taps, if you need them.
But according to Miss Sawyer, her client’s Middle Eastern home already has several bathrooms, and she is not sure if he will even use it as a bath, probably that’s why the tub doesn’t have taps.
‘My client wanted something a little over the top but I don’t think you can call this tacky.’
‘It’s stylish, I am absolutely thrilled with it, and bling is here to stay. People just love it and I try to capture a lot of what I do by the way I look – in other words, expensive,’ said Celia Sawyer.
