13. Stockholm, Sweden ($9,500 per square meter)
Next up on our list is the Venice of Scandinavia, Stockholm. Among seven other cities in the northern Europe, including Amsterdam, Stockholm is also known for its canal system.
This capital city of Sweden is the most populous, not just in Sweden, but also among the entire Nordic countries. In the municipality, there are almost 1 million people, making it the most populous with 13,000 inhabitants per square mile. That is way beyond the other two cities we have seen earlier on this list.
With such density, it should come as no surprise that it costs around $9,500 per square meter to buy a typical city apartment in Stockholm. Assuming the average apartment size is 120 square meters, you need around $1.15 million to purchase one.
“Welcome to Stockholm, one of the world’s most beautiful capitals. Built on 14 islands around one of Europe’s largest and best-preserved medieval city centers, the city is stunningly located by the Baltic Sea.” – stockholm.se
